Affiliate disclosure

HowsYourPets earns commissions from some of the links on this site. When you click a link to a retailer and buy something, we may receive a payment from that retailer. This costs you nothing extra — you pay the same price you would have paid otherwise.

What a “paid link” means

Any link on this site that can earn us money is labelled as a paid link, and the recommendation it belongs to carries a plain-language note saying so, right beside the link itself. We put it there rather than in footer small print so you cannot click without having seen it.

Our material connections

A “material connection” is any relationship that could reasonably affect how much weight you give our recommendation. Ours may include:

  • Commissions earned when you buy through a link on this site
  • Free or discounted products provided by a brand for review
  • Payment for a sponsored article or placement

Where any of these apply to a specific article, we say so on that article.

How this affects what we recommend

We choose products based on what we believe is genuinely useful for the animal and the owner. A retailer paying a higher commission does not earn a better placement, and we do not accept payment in exchange for a positive review. Where we have not tested a product ourselves, we say so rather than implying first-hand experience.

Canadian advertising law

We aim to follow the Competition Bureau of Canada's guidance on influencer and affiliate marketing under the Competition Act, which requires that material connections be disclosed in plain language and be clearly visible rather than hidden in small print, captions or tags. If you believe a disclosure on this site is unclear or missing, please tell us and we will correct it.

You can read the Bureau's guidance at competition-bureau.canada.ca.

Not veterinary advice

Nothing on this site is veterinary advice, and no product we recommend is a substitute for professional care. If your animal is unwell, contact a licensed veterinarian.
